Whale shark Holbox

During the summer months, the whale shark tour is by far the most popular excursion offered in Holbox. It’s a wonderful experience, and you get to swim and snorkel within a few meters of these enormous animals, all while seeing the amazing scenery that has fascinated countless tourists from all over the world.

The season generally runs from June until September

Day trip from Holbox

The boat will leave from the dock near the hotel Amaite Holbox and head to the area where the whale sharks are.

You will swim in pairs with the guide several times for about two hours. You can take pictures and look at these huge animals.

If you’re lucky, you might also see dolphins, turtles, and manta rays on the way to where the whales are.
After swimming with whales, we go to the area around Cabo Catoche to snorkel in reefs with colorful fish while eating ceviche.

Isla Contoy, which is two hours by boat from Holbox and situated north of Isla Mujeres, is among the most gorgeous tours in Holbox.

a safe haven with beautiful beaches, a tranquil atmosphere, and extraordinary beauty. The silky sand and vibrant sea colors here invite you to unwind while you watch the birds, palm trees, colorful fish, and sea.

There is a museum on this island, precisely where the trip begins. If you want a bird’s-eye view of the location, don’t be afraid to climb the observatory.

A delightful lunch with a seafood buffet roasted over charcoal will be offered. It will also include salads, rice, fruit, and a tasty meal with beer and soft drinks. The boat crew prepares the dinner, and on this island, there is a dining area with tables where guests can eat while admiring the lovely beach and water.

You will have enough time after lunch to stroll and unwind, enjoy the beach, or simply unwind before leaving for Holbox at around 2pm.

How to get to Holbox

Here is how you can get to Holbox:

By land

You can do it by car, shuttle or buses (which leave from Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum); and it is necessary to travel by road to the port of Chiquilá, which is where the ferries to Holbox depart.
* If you have a car, in Chiquilá you will find public parking lots to leave it.

By water

There are two ferry companies that, at 30-minute intervals, offer the service. The first crossing from Chiquilá is at 6:00 AM, and the last one returns from Holbox at 9:30 PM.

by air

A more sophisticated option is to arrive by plane. Private flights to Holbox can be hired from Isla Mujeres, Cancun, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen.
